Health Through Balance
Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) are based on an understanding of health through balance. Health is a state of optimal balance, where all of your systems are working as they should.
Symptoms, such as pain or insomnia, are alerts to an imbalance.
The first visit to On-Point Acupuncture, PLLC is from 1 to 1 – 1/2 hours. At this time a patient intake form and a disclosure statement, required by the state of West Virginia, is completed. We then decide on a treatment plan after review of history and pulse and tongue diagnosis. We then make a treatment plan that fits your condition and lifestyle. This plan could include extra modalities besides acupuncture, dietary changes, exercise changes, and herbal use (either in pain patches or liniment form). We do not continue to treat our patients unless we observe reasonable improvement in the ailment.
After the initial office visit, follow-up treatments are scheduled. These typically last for 45 minutes to 1 hour. Other modalities can be added on to this treatment, such as e-stim, moxabustion, guasha, and tuina. Most injuries require treatment one to two times weekly. We will re-evaluate after six treatments. If no improvement is made, we will find a referral for you to receive a different modality of treatment.
Cupping is an ancient form of healing used for pain, colds and flus, fevers, muscle tension, and more. It involves heating the inside of glass cups, then quickly applying them to the skin to suction the affected area. In children, suctioned cups are used that do not involve fire and do not usually leave marks. The fire cupping will leave circular marks on the treated area that usually takes around a week to disappear.
Electrical stimulation, also known as E-stim, is very effective in treating pain. Cords from a TENS unit are applied to two needles, causing electric current to run between these needles in the affected area. This can help tightened muscles, various types of pain, and chronic injuries, among others.
$50.00 initial appointment
$35.00 follow up appointments
These treatments do not necessarily use needles or “taps”. Instead, they include acupressure (gently massaging acupuncture points), the use of various tools to scrape the skin’s surface along acupuncture channels, lasers, a light electrical current at the site of acupuncture points, and non-fire cupping. The consulting treatment will include completion of a full health intake and a disclosure statement, required by the state of West Virginia, where a parent must authorize these treatments. The initial appointment lasts around forty-five minutes. Follow-up treatments last around thirty minutes.
